Featured venue June 2019: 100 Wardour Street, Soho

This famous address in Soho was once home to The Marquee Club between 1964 to 1988 and was and used to launch the careers of generations of rock acts. It was a key venue for early performances by bands who were to achieve worldwide fame in the 1960s and remained a venue for young bands in the following decades. It was the location of the first-ever live performance by The Rolling Stones on 12 July 1962. During this decade band residencies included The Yardbirds, Led Zeppelin, The Who, The Jimi Hendrix Experience and Pink Floyd. The Manish Boys featuring David Bowie and were also regulars and in 1967 Fleetwood Mac played the venue for the first time.

The historical importance of the club led to a number of bigger, established artists playing "secret" gigs at the venue often as one-off 'thank-yous' to fans, warm-up shows or just because they liked the intimate atmosphere. These "secret" shows were often promoted under an assumed name designed to be recognised only by hardcore fans.

In 1988 the club was sold and Conran’s famous Mezzo took its place in the 1990’s before the basement was transformed into Cuban hotspot Floridita and the ground floor into pan-Indian restaurant Carom.

100 Wardour Street was reopened in 2016 and the spirit of the venue’s history continues, hosting live music 5 nights a week. Throwback Thursdays get the party started with 90s and 00s and the weekend is all about crowd pleasing floor fillers. The stylish bar & lounge is open from breakfast right through until late night cocktails & bar bites and the glamorous basement restaurant & club is open until 2am.
